Soulful Movement: Kundalini Dance with a Unique Approach with Celina Klineschmidt

"As our awareness grows, so we grow." — Anonymous.

As I write this blog, Bohemian Sarasota, I’ve noticed that almost every other conversation begins with the same topic: how the pandemic changed everything. It was a time of forced reflection and, for many, a chance to pivot and ultimately transform their lives. It reminds us of the power we hold within us—how our reactions to the world can either push us forward or hold us back. This story is one of those, a glimpse into how challenges can spark something extraordinary.

For nearly a decade, Celina thrived as a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor,  connecting with the body through movement and wellness. But like many, the pandemic disrupted her path. Shifting her work online helped for a time, but as life transitioned back to in-person activities, she faced a more profound challenge: finding her footing again.

In 2022, Celina underwent a significant surgery. The recovery process lasted over a year, leaving her feeling disconnected from herself and her work. Fast-forward to 2023, and Celina began rebuilding herself piece by piece. By 2024, she experienced a profound shift that reignited her passion. It came as Kundalini Dance, a practice integrating movement, breathwork, and spiritual exploration. “It tied in my spiritual practice with my love of movement and wellness,” she explained.

What is Kundalini Dance?

The Kundalini Dance is a journey through the chakras, awakening Shakti energy from the root to the crown. Unlike traditional Kundalini Yoga, this practice blends ecstatic dance, mudras, mantras, and breathwork, creating an immersive experience. “The movements are designed to activate specific chakras while aligning with the breath,” Celina explained.

For example, working with the third eye might involve holding a mudra while coordinating four-count breaths in and out. Similarly, the sacral chakra incorporates Ujjayi breath, creating a rhythmic, wave-like sensation that mirrors the water element. Practices like Breath of Fire are also integrated, stimulating energy and awakening the body.

“It’s not just movement; it’s a personal journey,” Celina said. “You tune into what your body needs, pushing past boundaries while staying safe and comfortable.”

Who Can Practice Kundalini Dance?

One of the most remarkable aspects of Kundalini Dance is its accessibility. “There’s no dogma,” Celina emphasized. “It doesn’t matter your spiritual background or physical ability—this practice is for everyone.” Movements can be adapted to suit individual needs, whether sitting in a chair, lying down, or standing.

Celina’s years as a personal trainer and fitness instructor enable her to adjust practices for her students intuitively. “It’s not about doing it perfectly,” she explains. It’s about how it makes you feel.” The practice also welcomes personal expression. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing that resonates with them, whether it’s a favorite color, flowing skirts, or yoga outfits. Chanting, humming, or singing along to mantras is optional, adding another layer of personal connection.

What to Expect in a Class

A typical Kundalini Dance class lasts one hour and begins with celestial communication, a gentle opening practice that prepares the mind, heart, and body for receiving. This is followed by a dance to honor the four corners of the universe, a mindful movement ritual that expresses gratitude to the elements.

From there, the focus shifts to specific chakras. For instance, a root chakra session might include grounding movements like clapping, stomping, or bending to touch the earth. The class concludes with shavasana, a period of integration and relaxation that allows participants to absorb the energy and insights from the session. Participants are encouraged to bring personal items like crystals, statues, or journals to enhance their experience.
